I didn’t expect it to become one of my favorite countries in Asia. I went in curious—but not fully prepared for how deeply it would move me. The history, the resilience, and the warmth of the people made this destination feel unlike anywhere else I’ve been.

Angkor Wat isn’t just a temple. It’s the largest religious monument in the world, and standing in front of it at sunrise is one of those moments that truly stops time.
The sky slowly shifts from deep blue to soft pink as the reflection forms in the water… and suddenly, you understand why people travel across the world come to visit Cambodia.
But what surprised me most?
It’s not just Angkor Wat.

2. The People Are Some of the Kindest You’ll Ever Meet
This was hands down one of the biggest highlights for me and one of the biggest reasons I would tell any one to visit Cambodia is because of the people.
Cambodian people are warm, genuine, and incredibly welcoming. Despite their country’s difficult past, there’s a resilience and kindness that you feel everywhere—from your hotel staff to your tuk-tuk driver.
It’s the kind of hospitality that doesn’t feel forced… it feels real.
And honestly?
That’s what made me fall in love with Cambodia.

Before going, I didn’t know much about Cambodian cuisine—and now I can’t stop thinking about it.
From traditional Khmer dishes to modern fusion spots, the food scene in Cambodia is vibrant and evolving. One of my favorite restaurants we went to eat at was Amara Dining on Pub Street. They had an amazing assortment of Khmer foods to try, all delicious!

- Eat incredible meals for under $10–15

Compared to places like Thailand or Bali, Cambodia still feels… less crowded. The streets of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh are modern compared to a lot of other counties I’ve been to in Southeast Asia. Cambodia surprised me in the best ways.

- More connection to the culture
It feels like a place you get to discover, not just visit.
